Supervisor Baker’s Amendment to Fully Fund the Library and Save Marathon County Taxpayers $165,000.

As I publicly stated at the October 5th, 2023 EEED committee meeting prior to all of the recent press and comments on social media regarding the Library, it has been my intention to provide a Budget Amendment Resolution that increases the 2024 MCPL tax levy relative to the 2023 MCPL tax levy.

My proposed amendment increases the 2024 Library Tax Levy by $220,535 relative to the 2023 Library Tax Levy, saves the Marathon County taxpayers $165,000 in property taxes relative to the County Administrator’s/HRFC 2024 budget proposal, and fully funds the Library’s requested 2024 Budget using a combination of 2024 tax levy, non levy Library revenue, and $228,203 of the projected 2023 library fund reserves of $652,323.

Due to the level of confusion and misinformation surrounding the 2024 Library budget and proposal, I have provided a Library Budget and Tax Levy review here.

Revision 11/7/23; After Review by Finance Director Palmer and Corporation Counsel, Changed Requested Budget from $3,789,576 to $3,787,867.
